Traditional Mottos & Samplers

A selection of our samplers & mottoes. These are all done in the late 1920’s and 1930’s on linen.

“The first time someone buys a sampler/motto, they usually have no intention of collecting, but they do become addictive… One person may buy as many verses with “cottages” as she can find, then another person might collect “Colonial ladies”, and yet another, all “black and white.”.. There are so many different ways to arrange and display them.. Once you have one, you need three, then five, then seven, and all of a sudden you are surrounded with these charming thoughts and messages.” – Joan Carter, Country Home Magazine article

All samplers, have been washed, and remounted on acid free foam board
